EMvTW Extra 19 - U.S.S. Enterprise Shuttlecraft (Phase II Concept) (Leif Ericson Type)

Rewrites: NONE YET

It is time for another non-Standard Edition model from Eaglemoss' series of Star Trek starships, or as they call then, a Bonus Edition ship.  For this one, we are going to take a look at a concept model from a series that never was.

We don't ever get to see this ship on screen, but thanks to Eaglemoss, we get to see it now..

EMvTW 157 - Groumall CUF-2700 (Cardassian Freighter)

NOTE:  You can click on most pictures to get a larger view of them.

Rewrites: NONE YET

Our next review is of a Cardassian vessel.  While it is not a glorious attack vessel, it does give us another vessel from this race and brings the Eaglemoss collection to a total of four.

We first get to see this starship in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode called "Return to Grace".

EMvTW 156 - USS Melbourne NCC-62043 (Nebula Class)

NOTE:  You can click on most pictures to get a larger view of them.

Rewrites: NONE YET

Moving back to our regular lineup of Standard Edition models, we now bring our focus on to the slightly peculiar looking USS Melbourne (NCC-62043).

We first get to see this starship in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode called "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II".

EMvTW Special 17 - Planet Killer (AKA Doomsday Machine)

NOTE:  You can click on most pictures to get a larger view of them.

Rewrites: NONE YET

It has been a while since I reviewed a Special Edition model from the Eaglemoss Star Trek collection.  I am thankful to say that once again we are treated to something that IS NOT a NewTrek vessel.  For this Special Edition model, we have been given the Planet Killer, which is also known as the Doomsday Machine to some folks.

We first get to see this starship in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode called "The Doomsday Machine".

EMvTW 155 - Vulcan Survey Vessel D'Vahl

NOTE:  You can click on most pictures to get a larger view of them.

Rewrites: NONE YET

First Contact Day is a holiday celebrated to honor both the warp 1 flight of the Phoenix and first open contact between Humans and Vulcans on April 5th, 2063 in Bozeman, Montana.

We later find out in the second season of Star Trek: Enterprise that the Vulcans had actually visited Earth before then, between October, 1957 and January, 1958.  We also learn that the visit, and the extended stay was not intentional.

For this issue of Eaglemoss vs. The World, we are going to take a look at the D'Vahl.

We first get to see this starship in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode called "Carbon Creek", where it went to Earth to rescue the three Vulcans who were stranded there..

EMvTW 154 - Klingon Transport (22nd Century)

NOTE:  You can click on most pictures to get a larger view of them.

Rewrites: NONE YET

Swinging back into reviewing the Standard Line of Eaglemoss models, we come to issue number 154, which is a 22nd Century Klingon Transport Ship.

We first get to see this starship in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode called "Judgment".

EMvTW Extra 18 - U.S.S Enterprise Shuttlecraft (Jefferies Concept)

NOTE:  You can click on most pictures to get a larger view of them.

Rewrites: NONE YET

We are going to take a break from the Standard Edition series of Eaglemoss models and take a look at something from their Bonus Line of models, or as I like to call them, "The Extras".  This series of models is a subset of the Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection and consists of ships that are either non-canon in nature, or in some cases, ships that are a little more special, like glow in dark models or "cloaked" models.

And for this review, we are going take a look at the Jeffries Concept model for what later evolves into the Class F shuttlecraft that we see throughout Star Trek: The Original Series.

We never get to see this ship on screen, so I find it actually very cool that Eaglemoss has produced a physical model of this ship for us.

EMvTW 153 - Devore Warship

NOTE:  You can click on most pictures to get a larger view of them.

Rewrites: NONE YET

In this Eaglemoss vs. The World article, we are going to take a look at a rather sinister looking vessel, the Devore Warship.

We first get to see this starship in the Star Trek: Voyager episode called "Counterpoint".

EMvTW 152 - USS Excelsior Nilo Rodis Concept II (AKA U.S.S. Excelsior Prototype Mk II)

NOTE:  You can click on most pictures to get a larger view of them.

Rewrites: NONE YET

Eaglemoss had me worried on this next review.  I placed the order for the model and then it took them a little over two weeks to get it to me.  Luckily, it arrived and I was not held up with writing the review.

For this article, we are going to take a good look at the USS Excelsior Nilo Rodis Concept II model (AKA U.S.S. Excelsior Prototype Mk II).

We very briefly get to see this starship at Surplus Depot Z15 in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode called "Unification, Part I".

Missing Eaglemoss Bonus Reviews...

As I do this push to catch up on a year's worth of Eaglemoss model reviews, you may notice that I will miss a few of the Bonus Edition model, or as I call them, "The Extras", in my line-up.  That is on purpose.

First, let us get the XL Editions out of the way.  I won't be reviewing them because of two reasons...

Reason #1 - They are too darned big.  I prefer my models in my collection to be around 6 inches in length.  Yes, size does matter.  I actually am not a fan of the Special Edition models because of their size, however, they came as part of the subscription when I first started, so I just kept buying into those models.

Reason #2 - The XL line is too expensive for my tastes.  I wrote the initial Eaglemoss vs. The World reviews to help fellow collectors find the best model for the best price.  The XL series goes against that better price philosophy.

It is for the size and price reasons that I also have not bought into the Star Trek: Attack Wing or  HeroClix series either.  They are too small, and in some cases, too pricey.

Unfortunately, the Standard Edition series has reached a point where they are producing models that no one else has done in a pre-built and pre-painted format so the "vs. The World" part of my series just sort of hangs there waiting for something to be applied to.

Wait... I was supposed to talk about "The Extras"....

Most of the models that have been produced in the Bonus Edition line of models have been very cool additions to my overall fleet.  However, there have been some models that in my opinion are redundant and perhaps a gimmick on Eaglesmoss' part to grab up as much money from us collectors as possible.

Do I as a collector, need ISS versions of all the Standard Line of models?  No.  Do I need five differently named TOS era Constitution class starships? No. Do I need one of those Constitution class starships that glows in the dark? NO! Do I need a version of the TOS era USS Enterprise that showed up in the pilot episode? No... but I bought it anyway because it was slightly different with those pointed bussard collectors.

I think that the one Bonus model that had me shaking my head at the most though was the "Cloaked" USS Defiant, which is nothing more than Eaglemoss pouring clear plastic into their original Issue # 9 molds.  I'm sure that with it being all plastic, the molded details must be nice, but how can you tell except by feeling it up like some date in the back seat of your beat up car?

I'm sorry Eaglemoss, but I was duped into buying a "cloaked" MicroMachine Defiant many years ago for a higher price.  A guess what?  It wasn't worth the money then, and this one that Eaglemoss is producing isn't worth the money now.  I mean really, they are going to charge us more money for a "Bonus" model that has less details than the cheaper "Standard" model?  Nope, nope and a big fat NOPE to that, thank you.

And let us face it, price is still the key ingredient here.  I don't make a dime writing these reviews.  I don't like advertising because as a computer tech, I know that some advertisements can be hazardous to your computer's health.  And I feel that they detract from the beauty of my work (LOL).  And god forbid that Eaglemoss would actually send a reviewer free merchandise to review.  Nope, I pay for all of these models that are reviewed.  And part of my prefers it that way because it allows me to give a more honest and less tainted review where I'm not trying to please a manufacturer.  My having to pay for everything is also why from time to time, I have to take a hiatus from writing.  Sometime, you gotta feed the family over writing a review.

Although, my collection has grown quite a bit over the last 12 years, so perhaps one day I'll build a house out of them.

NOTE: I can't believe I actually found an image like that.  LOL.

And there you have it.  My reasons why you won't see certain Eaglemoss models go up for review by me.

Anyway, I am happy to be back and writing for now.  I have missed creating the reviews and hearing comments from my readers both her on the blog as well in my FaceBook posts.  Thank you for sticking around this last year and let us hope that the next year continues to be filled with fun reviews.

EMvTW Extra 15 - USS Voyager NCC-74656 [Assimilated] (Intrepid Class)

NOTE:  You can click on most pictures to get a larger view of them.

Rewrites: NONE YET

I will take a quick break from the Eaglemoss' Standard Edition line of models to take a look at the next "Bonus Edition" issue or as I like to call them, "The Extras".  The next model that they chose to give us was the Assimilated USS Voyager.

We first get to see this rendition of our beloved starship in the Star Trek: Voyager episode called "Scorpion, Part II".

EMvTW 151: B'omar Patrol Ship

NOTE:  You can click on most pictures to get a larger view of them.

Rewrites: NONE YET

With this issue of Eaglemoss vs. The World, we have shot past our 150th review of the Standard Edition models and start the final journey to that last one at #180.  Do we think that Eaglemoss will extend the collection again?  I'm not so sure this time.  They are now scraping the bottom of the barrel for materials to produce.  That is also coupled with the fact that they are now spinning up new collections for other Star Trek ships (like Star Trek Online) as well as other TV series starships (like The Orville).

So for Issue #151, we get to take a look at the B'omar Patrol Ship.

We first get to see this starship in the Star Trek: Voyager episode called "The Raven".

ATTENTION PLEASE!!! SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

We interrupt our regularly scheduled series of articles to bring you a special announcement.

EMvTW 150: USS Antares NCC-9844 (Miranda Class)

NOTE:  You can click on most pictures to get a larger view of them.

Rewrites: None Yet

It is a new week for my rally to catch up with a year of missed Eaglemoss vs. The World reviews.  This week starts off with the USS Antares (NCC-9844).

We first get to see this starship in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode called "Favor the Bold".

Sunday, June 7, 2020

EMvTW Extra 14 - USS Altair (Prototype) (Altair Class)

NOTE:  You can click on most pictures to get a larger view of them.

Rewrites: None Yet

I have fallen so far behind with my Eaglemoss collection this past year that to catch up with all the reviews, I will have to produce three a week and then after 4 months, I'll be back on track.  As such, every third review will be either a Special Edition, Shuttle Collection, or one of the Shop Exclusive (or Extras as I call them).

This review is going to focus on the shop exclusive, the USS Altair, which was one of Doug Drexler's concept models for the USS Voyager.

We never get to see this ship on screen, which makes this model a non-cannon ship, even though it was the brain child of one of the best Star Trek modelers of all time.

EMvTW 149 - Krenim Warship

NOTE:  You can click on most pictures to get a larger view of them.

Rewrites: NONE YET

As I finish, or maybe start my own personal "Year Of Hell", it seemed almost fitting that I now am reviewing this model, the Krenim Warship.

We are first introduced to this type of vessel in the Star Trek: voyager episode called "Before and After".

EMvTW 148 - Jem'Hadar Battleship

NOTE:  You can click on most pictures to get a larger view of them.

Rewrites: NONE YET

It has been just a few days over a year since I last wrote a review for this blog.  While I have been keeping busy building other models from time to time, I have not felt motivated enough to do any articles about those builds.  It has just been that sort of year.  I stopped writing this last year because I went into the second half of 2019 feeling kind of crappy.  Things were going really well until about 2 weeks ago and then things "went to shit" again.  I finally decided to just bite the bullet and start collecting the Eaglemoss models again and bury my head into writing the reviews.  We'll see how this therapy goes.  :-)

And so, without any further dragging of feet, I present to you Eaglemoss vs. The World, Issues # 148, which happens to be the Jem'Hadar Battleship.

We first get to see this starship in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode called "Valiant".

Hark! I hear somehing in the distance!!!

It has been exactly one year since my last post here at Deepspace Pat.  A lot has happened over the last two years, and I clearly did not end up where I thought I would at the end of this year long ride.

And so, it is time for the Phoenix to rise up and start again.

I have decided to bring myself some sort of peace, and feel that it is time to start doing reviews again.  I will start publishing three article a week, timed for Thursday.

Hopefully, my readers are still there...
