EMvTW Special 08: USS Franklin NX-326 (Franklin Type)

I am really excited to bring you this next Eaglemoss vs. The World article.  For the first time in a long time, I am actually able to give you a real comparison article.

For this article, we are going to cover The USS Franklin (NX-326).  She was a warp 4 capable vessel that predated the NX Warp 5 ships.  The Franklin was presumed lost and we finally discover her fate in Star Trek: Beyond.  You can read more about this ship at the following Memory Alpha and Memory Beta links.

As I started getting into collecting and wanting to expand my collection, I found a serious lack of  comparative data out there showing the various small scale pre-built and pre-painted ships available to the collector.  And so I set out to provide this information myself and hopefully help someone make a wiser decision in which model to buy.  My collecting preferences is that the model be between 4 to 6 inches which is why I don't include certain manufacturers like HeroClix.  The only reason I show MicroMachine from time to time is because I happen to have obtained the full collection of them years ago and want to show them off.

Here is my current collection:

Firefly Class - Series 3

Rewrites: March 2018 & January 2019

Wow!  Has it really been three months (November 2016) since my last article? I guess so.  I've hinted before that I would need to take a financial hiatus for a bit so, yeah, that was the result.  I managed to scrape up some money for a birthday present to myself, hence this article.

We're going to stray away from Star Trek for once and take a look at a ship from one of my all time favorite, but short lived TV shows, "Firefly".  At least we did get a movie out of it, but it's been a LOOONG time since we've seen anything else.

We are of course talking about the ship called Serenity, a Firefly Class [Series 3] transport from the TV series called "Firefly" and the feature length movie called "Serenity (2005)".  As you can see from my collection above, I have managed to acquire three variants of this ship as well as printed my own version.  In December of 2018, Hallmark released their take on this ship which is what prompted the update to this article.  Sadly, my collection has been packed away for a Starbase move, and I was unable to find the MakerBot version to show in the updated collection photo above.

Star Trek: Beyond (2106) DVD Bonus Ships

NOTE:  You can click on most pictures to get a larger view of them.

The lesson I learned during my "research" for this article is that promotional pictures don't give you a very good idea of what you are actually getting.

The release of Star Trek: Beyond to DVD is heralding in some neat little extras when you purchase your copy through certain select sources.

I'm not going to get into the movie that much other than to say that I liked it.  I have not been a big fan of the NuTrek series, however, of the three movies that have come and gone, this one is by far the best of them.

That being said, I really liked the fact that it was possible to get one's hands on some models of ships from the movie through those select deals.  Like a good reviewer, I went ahead and purchased those two DVD sets just for the ships and I can now give you an honest review of them and hopefully help you make a wise purchasing choice.

LootCrate: July 2016 Bonus Ship: Planet Express Ship

NOTE:  You can click on most pictures to get a larger view of them.

This blog is about sharing models and toys from my collection and in some cases doing a review.  A co-worker of mine is a subscriber to LootCrate.  LootCrate is a monthly subscription that costs around $14 (plus shipping) a month and they will send you a box full of stuff.  Each month has a theme, for example, October was horror month and the items in the box revolved around the horror genre.

July 2016's theme was "Futuristic" and of course, the items were sci-fi related.  When she pulled the following item out of her LootCrate, I seriously began to drool...

Apparently, the people over at Quantum Mechanix (QMX) made a model for the members of this "club" and that model is Bessie, the Planet Express Delivery Ship from the hit TV series, Futurama.
