EMvTW 163 - Orion Interceptor

Rewrites: NONE YET

This review of Eaglemoss' Standard Edition models focuses on an alien vessel, the Orion Interceptor.

We first get to see this starship in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode called "Borderland".

Per Memory Alpha and Beta, "Orion Interceptors were fast, moderately-armed starships used by the Orion Syndicate during the 22nd century.  The exterior design of this class's hull was hawk-like in appearance, incorporating swept wings positioned at the aft of the vessel, with a beak-like forward section.  The interceptor's armaments included at least one particle cannon mounted on the underside of the hull. The vessel was also equipped with a transporter."

Having collected every Standard Edition Eaglemoss model so far, my memories are taken back to Issue #96, the Orion Scout ship.  Unfortunately, because of that issue, we are left wondering what exactly happened to the Orions that they went from using the beautiful looking ship we see above to the weird looking TOS era ship.

If you would like to read more about that older model, you can do so at THIS LINK.

Now that I got that little thought out of the way, let us take a better look at the Interceptor.

At first, it appears that we are being treated to another faulty stand, however, if you push it on tightly, it does seem to clip into place.  Unfortunately, I'm afraid that with continued removal, the paint is going to wear away from the model.

Right off the bat, I love the paint work on this model.  The red "break" immediately draws your attention to the front of the ship where you are treated to a lot of other tiny painted features, like the bridge window ship registry markings and exposed mechanics along the sides.  The ship's registry marking are also clear and readable (if you could read Orion) both on the "beak" as well as the top of the command module.

The wings have a light colored pattern on them, however, the more eye catching paint work is the rust spots that have been placed all over to convey a heavily used starship.  In a way, it gives the wings an almost bloody appearance.  The ship's registry information is also presents on both the top and bottom of both wings.

The engine exhausts are painted yellow which I feel is a nice touch, especially since Eaglemoss has a hit and miss history with highlighting this part of their models.

The sculpt and mold work on this model is fantastic.  As I stated earlier, there is exposed ship's mechanics along the sides of the ship as well as on the wings.

The ship is also covered in panel lines, hatches and air intakes.  All of these details are presented in nice and crisp details.

The engineering end of the ship boasts four exhaust ports that have been molded rather nicely.

The join seams have been blended beautifully with the lines of the ship are very difficult to spot.

And that is all the pictures and comparisons I have to share on this ship at this time.  As for pricing, I will continue with the tradition of looking up pricing on eBay and finding the most inexpensive Buy-It-Now prices at the time of this article's writing.  Prices were researched last on July 16th, 2020, and as of the writing of this article, I was able to find the model from a seller for around $35 (shipping included).  You also can currently order the model right from Eaglemoss' US WebStore for around $25 (shipping unknown).

What else can I say?  In my opinion, this is a beautifully rendered static model.  Eaglemoss outdid themselves and I am even comfortable saying that if you had to pay $35 for this model, it is probably worth it.  It will display well in your collection and probably draw visual attention to itself all on its own.

BONUS ROUND!!!

Every once in a while, I'll have a little extra stuff to share with you that sort of fits in with my comparison articles.

From what I can tell, this will be the last Orion ship from Eaglemoss to grace our collection, so with that being said, here is the entire Eaglemoss Orion Fleet.

As always, I hope you found this article useful and informative.  If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please feel free to comment below.

So for now, "Live long and prosper!!!"
