EMvTW 139: Vaadwaur Fighter (Pythus Class)

NOTE:  You can click on most pictures to get a larger view of them.

The last of this month's Standard Edition releases is a rather cool looking little fighter that predates our time and actually was in use in the 1400's.

The Vaadwaur Pythus Class Fighter was seen in the Star Trek: Voyager episode called "Dragon's Teeth".

Per Memory Alpha and Beta, "The Vaadwaur assault fighter was a small warship used by the Vaadwaur in the 15th century. It was capable of operation both in an atmosphere and in space, and was armed with particle cannons."

While the ship was never given an official class name on screen, non-cannon sites have called it a Pythus Class assault fighter.

Let us take a good close look at the Eaglemoss model.

Eaglemoss tends to really shine with their recreations of smaller starcraft.  This is because, they have a larger "canvas" to work with when up-sizing such a small vehicle to their Standard Edition line of ships.  Let's face it, all the details of such a small vehicle are able to be brought into sharp focus when presenting a model in a larger scale.

The sculpt and mold work on this model is just plain fantastic.  We might as well talk about that Particle Cannon tucked under the nose of the ship first.  The fact that Eaglemoss attached this cool looking greeble is one of the biggest selling points for this model.

Eaglemoss also did a right fine job with their representation of the Central Plasma Impeller.  You almost feel like yo can climb up on top of the ship and start doing some tune-up work on this machinery.  Put don't accidentally step on those square Lift Engine Intakes.  All of these components just add to making this thing look like the real deal.

The Impulse Thrusters are nice and crisp in their details too.

Now, let us talk about the paint work for this model.  All I can say is, "Wow!"  This thing is covered head to toe in painted on details and do they stand out beautifully.  The darkened cockpit glass adds a bit of foreboding to the look of the fighter.

I think that one of the most impressive parts of the paint work is the scorch marks that cover leading edges of the ship.  These give the model a sense age and heavy use and serve their purpose very well.

The orange exhausts do a fine job of showing us where you should not be sticking your head when the ship starts up it's engines.

The warp nacelles are dominated by a large clear orange cylinder.  These things are just the icing on an already very tasty cake and help draw your attention to the model as it sits on your shelf.

Finally, the joins and seams are hidden away nicely into the natural lines of the model.  the only place you notice anything odd about them is in the nacelles where they hold onto the orange piece.

And that is all the pictures I have to share on this ship at this time.  As for pricing, I will continue with the tradition of rounding up the most inexpensive Buy-It-Now prices from eBay at the time of this article's writing.  I researched these prices on January 1st, 2019 and found the Vaadwaur Fighter going for around $30 (shipping included) on eBay and directly from the U.S. Eaglemoss WebStore for around $23 (shipping unknown).

And we have finally reached the part of my article where I get to tell you if I think this model is worth the money.  When I have been forced to buy my Eaglemoss models off of eBay, I had become used to paying anywhere from $25 to $30 (shipping included) for the Standard Edition line of models.  This model is right in line with those costs.  And quite frankly, given the awesome quality of this model, I would be willing to pay up to $40 for it.  It is well worth the money and you have a great quality model that will catch people's eyes from across the room.  So, yes, I really do think that the model is well worth the money.

As always, I hope you found this article useful and informative.  If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please feel free to comment below.

So for now, "Live long and prosper!!!"
