It seems that I have started getting a regular group of followers and readers for this Blog so I figured I might as well fill in my new readers as to what you WON'T find me reviewing and the reasons why I won't be going down that path.
First and foremost, I make no money with my reviews. I get no kick-back from the manufacturers, nor do they send me any free products to review. While, it would be nice to get something for all my hard work, it simply is not the case. Which means, everything you see me reviewing has been paid for out of my own pocket. And let me tell you, I am not a rich man or collector. 😁 In fact, I'm a divorced dad, in the process of getting remarried, and supporting three children, two dogs, and two cats, so the funds go to taking care of the family first. so my collecting is typically done on a "shoe-string" budget.
I have had offers in the past from some of my readers, to send me some models from thier collection, to borrow and include in my reviews. I have turned them down for a number of reasons, but the two main ones are these:
1) I don't want to be responsible for thier beloved collectibles getting lost or damaged in the mail or while in my possessions. Remember, I have children and pets, LOL.
2) I feel that my reviews and opinions remain more genuine, especially when I go on and recommend what to buy, if I have to actually pay for these products with my own hard earned cash. I really do mean it when I state, "I like to give you my opinion of which ship gives you the "best bang for the buck", which is my rough way of telling you which one is the best one to get, for the best price. To put this in a nutshell, when I write these, I am trying to give my opinion of which model is the best for the least cost.".
My collecting tastes also are geared towards models that are around 6 inches in length as I get more real estate on my bookshelves with models from the Standard Eaglemoss collection, Hallmark, Furuta and Hot Wheels models.
I say all of that to segway into my feelings about Eaglemoss's Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek XL collections.
I got into collection The Official Starships Collection from Eaglemoss, because, quite frankly, A) they were the right size for my collection, and B), they were the right price. I then after much soul searching made an exception in regards to the Special Edition line of models from Eaglemoss, because they WERE marketed as being part of the original Standard Sized collection, but in several of those larger models' cases, I was not happy with thier size or the source material. Apparently, Paramount tied Eaglemoss' hands and forced them to produce all NuTrek models in the Special Edition line and size.
The Extra Series of models that have been produced still fell within my budget constraints, so I have bought into those model regularly. The shuttle sets have been a bone of contention with me because of the costs of those sets, HOWEVER, they were still marketed as part of the Standard Collection, so I sucked it up and grudgingly bought them.
Eaglemoss then came out with the XL Series of models. First, they are WAY to big for my collection. Second, I already have those models in my collection in a much more preferred size, so I can't bring myself to spending that kind of money on them. I have also heard that there are some fault in those models like bad paint work, which would totally piss me off if I spent the amount of money they want for them, and they couldn't even bother to raise thier quality on the production.
And so, I have flat out refused to buy into them.
(Note: I know that that picture is in regards to a pipeline, but it looked cool. LOL)
Then Star Trek: Discovery came onto the scene, or STD as I prefer to call it. While I have seen every episode, I am not a fan of the show. Are the ships cool looking? Mostly, and it would be great to have them in my collection.
BUT... Let's face it, they are freaking expensive, and like the XL series of models, they are too freaking BIG as well.
And so, I had to make the conscious decision to not buy into this series of model either.
(Note: Once again, not the right picture, but funny anyway.)
And now we come to the gist of this entire article. This week, while looking to see if I could buy this month's TOSC models, I find that there is a new entry in the Standard Series section of the website.

I will admit, my first thoughts were "WTF?!?!" Then I started thinking, "WHY? WHY? WHY?"
Hey Eaglemoss! This is a STD model, so you should be listing it over in the Discovery section of your website. You have also left me wondering, does that little size chart mean that you will be producing this in a Standard Series sized model?
Whatever is going on here, I'm sure that if you have been paying attention to this article, then you will already know that I will NOT be reviewing this model either.
And that my friends is the gist of my writing to all of you tonight.
As always, I hope you found this article useful and informative. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please feel free to comment below.
So for now, "Live long and prosper!!!"
I can't blame you for not wanting to spend 3x as much on ships from a show that you don't actually like especially when they're so much bigger than the rest of your collection. Eaglemoss ships have never had a consistent scale but displaying the XL ships next to normal ones looks very jarring. I appreciate the reviews you've done over the years of the regular ships so thanks for those.
