EMvTW 133: Irina's Racing Ship

NOTE:  You can click on most pictures to get a larger view of them.

The new job is kicking my butt and leaving me too exhausted in the evenings to do any typing.  Luckily, the weekend is upon me and I have the energy to write some more.

Which brings us to the next ship in the Standard Edition line-up, Irina's Racing Ship which we get to see in action in the Star Trek Voyager episode called "Drive".

It has been a heck of a run for Eaglemoss with this standard line of models.  And as we slide into the last 30 or so models of the collection, we are going to start to see some interesting (we hope) ships.

Per Memory Alpha and Beta, "Irina's ship was a Terrellian ship which took part in the first Antarian Trans-stellar Rally in 2377. The ship was more maneuverable than the Delta Flyer II, though it still lost to the Flyer in an impromptu race."

I really didn't know what to think when I learned of this model coming out.  Sometimes you just have to wait and see though, and this model did deliver some cool stuff.

To start off, the sculpt and mold work are very well done.  This model is covered in all sorts of textured details, from the panel lines to the exposed engine parts and rivets all over the body of the ship.

The painted on details are what really makes the model stand out as a winner to me.  The in universe ship is a bit on the small size, about the size of the Delta Flyer, and this small ship brought out at this scale gave Eaglemoss a lot of canvas to paint on.

The gold and red paint scheme is vibrant and certainly eye catchy in itself.  But when you get up close and personal, you start to notice that all those molded details also got some love in the paint department as well.

Eaglemoss used to have some issues with paint alignment, especially when it came to windows, however, this usually only involved the larger capital ships.  It is nice that they have improved the paint application in these later models because the black windows on the model are rather cool looking.

The "nacelles" on the ship are very prominent, and have received some good attention from the manufacturer.

Eaglemoss is famous for trying to include clear plastic parts on thier models to help represent glowing areas of the ship.  This model is no exception as they have squeezed some yellow plastic on the "nacelles.

In fact, I almost missed the fact that Eaglemoss even lined the insides of those "nacelles" with that yellow plastic.

The only bad thing I could come up with for the model was in regards to the join and seam, which is very noticeable on the bottom of the command module.

And that is all I really have to share at this point on this class of ship.  As for pricing, I will continue with the tradition of rounding up the most inexpensive Buy-It-Now prices from eBay at the time of this article's writing (October 2018).

Eaglemoss = $25

NOTE: Prices were researched last on November 12th, 2018.  As of the writing of this article, you can also currently order the Eaglemoss model right from the company themselves for around $23 (shipping unknown).

Over the last two years, I have come to expect to comfortably pay anywhere from $25 to $30 for a standard sized Eaglemoss model, so the pricing of this one is right in line of my comfort zone.  And quite frankly, at that price, this model is a steal for the quality that you get.  Other than the join issue, this model is very cool to look at, and would make a great addition to your starship collection.

As always, I hope you found this article useful and informative.  If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please feel free to comment below.

So for now, "Live long and prosper!!!"
