EMvTW 39: Romulan (Holo) Drone

Next up in my Eaglemoss vs. The World series is the Romulan Holo Drone that we see in several back to back episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise, staring with the one called "Babel One".  This is one of the finer examples of why Eaglemoss will continue to come out as one of the best ways to collect small scale versions of the ships we all love.

So far, Eaglemoss is the only manufacturer who has produced a pre-made, pre-painted model of this ship.  I've said it before and I'll say it again, these guys are a great investment if you want to populate your small scale collection with new a different ships that no one else has done before.

I say all that to forewarn you that since I have noting else to compare the model to, this will be a relatively short article.

Next up for my Eaglemoss vs. The World series of articles is The Delta Flyer.  We are first introduced to this starship in the Star Trek: Voyager episode called "Extreme Risk".  We are then treated to many appearances of this ship throughout the rest of the series.

My current collection only consists of two versions of this ship, one from Eaglemoss and one from Hallmark.

I'm a big fan of this ship.  She's sleek, she's fast, she's tough for a small vessel, and she's versatile enough to take on a bunch of different roles.  The Delta Flyer just plain looks like a cool spaceship.

Moving right along with my catching up on my Eaglemoss vs. The World articles, we'll focus next on the Andorian cruiser, better known as the Kumari class.  We are first introduced to this type of starship in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode called "Cease Fire".

My collection only consists of one manufacturer's rendition of this ship so this will be a relatively short article.

It has been quite a while since I've written any of my Eaglemoss vs. The World articles.  As I stated in a previous post, life got in the way of my modeling and collecting.  Now I'm back with what I hope to be a good revitalization of posts.

The first of the next six comparative articles will focus on the Oberth Class vessel.  We are first briefly introduced to this type of starship  in the movie, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984).

Although there have been some companies producing a pre-built and pre-painted version of this ship, they have tended to be on the small side, like MicroMachine size small.  There also isn't many model kits of this ship either.

My current collection consists of an Eaglemoss, a Furuta, several Cozmo Heavy Industries resin kits (some of them kitbashed), and a MicroMachine model.

State Of The Universe Address

I've been on hiatus for a while now. I figured I'd give a little update on the status of my universe.

After the move, finances were a bit tight and I had to cancel my subscription to the Eaglemoss collection. Given that I've pretty much received all the freebie gifts except for a gaudy looking Borg cube, I think I'll continue collecting by buying from various reputable eBay sellers instead of renewing the subscription. The good news is, I think I'll be able to start collecting them again so those comparative reviews should start flowing again. As a treat for this month, I'll have 6 of them in a row.  :-)

As for building anything, I've been in a bit of a rut. The week of the move, I got dumped. Which was ironic since I was moving to be closer to the girlfriend. A little while later, I started dating someone else and just wasn't in the mood to work on anything. Now I'm single again and trying to rekindle the building fire. I really need to do this as I have three incomplete builds on my "bench" and several new Space Battleship Yamato 2199 kits to build.

On an upside, I don't know whether FaceBook fixed the issue, or my upgrading to Windows 10 did it, but I apparently can re-arrange the photo albums again so I don't need to transfer the photo collection offsite.

So there you go. Keep an eye on my feed, things should start becoming lively again.

Goliath Class (SBY) Super Battle Carrier

I always felt that the Earth Defense Force was seriously lacking in carrier capabilities.  This ship was my attempt at getting a little over zealous with the whole battle carrier idea.  This model was also the first time that I designed my own kitbash for the Space Battleship Yamato universe.  All of my previous kitbashes were based off of other people's work and already existing ship designs.

Before we post the address where you will be mailing your submissions, let’s go over exactly what you need to enter.

Remember, any medium is allowed. This includes, plastic, resin, clay, lego or other physical models, Hand drawn or computer made 2D images, and 3D virtual models.

Your ship design must:
Be StarTrek. (No BSG, StarWars, etc.)
Be your own design (kitbashing is allowed)
Be submitted before 1:59 PM Central time July 31st 2015

Your submission email must include:
Your name
The name and class (if applicable)
jpeg or png images of views of the ship from top, bottom, side, front, rear (¾ or perspective views are also encouraged)
Specifications of the ship (size, crew, armament, speed, etc.)
Design history and/or back story (where did this ship come from? Why was it built? What did it do?)

Additional info:
This contest is only for members of the Star Trek Modelers Group or the Trekyards Model Building Showcase Page
Your ship design does not have to be created during the contest. It can be an older design.
Up to, but no more than two individuals may work on a design together.
You can submit multiple designs, provided that they all meet the criteria.
Each entry should be contained in a single email with the subject line: “examplename’s contest Entry”
